This is regarded by many fans as the greatest week in New Zealand racing, incorporating the stars from both the galloping and harness codes.
The high quality racing is complemented by a week of excitement, fashion and entertainment, on and off the course.
All three galloping meetings at Riccarton Park are Premier racedays and include nine Group or Listed races.
The high point is Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup Day, which has become a sell out event and is one of the biggest meetings of the racing year, in terms of both attendance and betting turnover.
The New Zealand Cup has a history going back to 1865 and at 3200m provides a true test of stamina.
The Cup Meeting also features the first major three-year-old races of the racing season, with the Al Basti Equiworld New Zealand 2000 Guineas taking centre stage on the opening day and the Barneswood Farm NZ 1000 Guineas adding lustre to the final day.
The glamour race on the middle day is the Coupland’s Bakeries Mile.
