The Club is based at Ruakaka Racecourse, adjacent to the Bream Bay coast at the Ruakaka beach. The Club has 10-12 meetings per season with its main racing period being mid-May to mid-October to take advantage of the well-draining sand profile during the wet winter season. The racing surface is a kikuyu turf with rye over-sown for the winter. The venue has a local horse population base of a small group of trainers who take advantage of the all year-round access to the beach and two training tracks. The dominant and very successful trainer with three-quarters of the horse population (about 65 horses) is Logan Racing who have a complementary stable in Singapore. The course is 90 minutes north of Auckland harbour bridge and 25 minutes south of Whangarei with several accommodation operators based in nearby One Tree Point, Ruakaka and Waipu.

Membership: Annual subscription $55 incl GST is due in April each year as the membership year is from the start of April to the end of March.

Featured meeting

The Club races its main winter Saturdays in June and July featuring staying races known as the Bream Bay Cup, Northpine Waipu Cup and the ITM Whangarei Gold Cup, supported by lower grade racing classes that attracts the young up and coming horses. A number of spring and summer stars win their early races at Ruakaka as their trainers have been enticed by the good winter condition of the sand-based surface to prepare for the spring features.
The local sponsors bring many guests to enjoy hospitality on these winter Saturdays, but the Club also celebrates with a Mid-Winter Christmas themed function and luncheon for pre-booked groups on each of the days.
The feature race meeting is in the middle of September and features the Group 3 Cambridge Stud Northern Breeders Stakes that is supported by the running of the Ruakaka Cup over 2200 metres. The Group 3 race has consistently grown in stature since its transition from a race for two-year-olds to a race for three-year -olds. The 2018 running saw Melt win from Madison County and both have gone on to win Group 1 races in NZ.
In summer, the Club features the two national events of Christmas at the Races (mid-December) and Interislander Summer Festival (first Saturday in January). Being the only two meetings the Club has in the better weather days between October and May they attract the two largest attendance days and are the only days the Club charges an entry fee to the course.
The venue has a NO BYO for alcohol and the food options are delivered by local caterer Brent Taylor of Tee Café, from several outlets including the Bayview Café.
