Successful racehorse trainer, based in Cambridge
Linda Laing, race horse trainer, has a boutique operation based not far from Cambridge track. Catering for up to 16 horses, her stable provides the very best, state of the art facilities and has a hands-on approach to all aspects of thoroughbred care.
Her brother, former top jockey Baz Dowling, provides chiropractic care when required and with the very best veterinary care only minutes away, your horse will have every chance to develop into a winner under the guiding hand of Linda Laing.
The Dowling name is synonymous with feature race success – among them being 3 NZ Cups, and a 3rd and a 4th in the Melbourne Cup with Mercator and Double Take respectively.
Veyron‘s win in the 2013 Warwick Stakes in Sydney is a career highlight for Linda as he beat the best ‘weight for age’ horses in Australasia.
Linda has also had the privilege of working closely with some wonderful gallopers during her career. Names such as Caruba, Limitless, Mercator, Double Take, Soldier Blue, Run For Cover, Twinkling and, in more recent years the million dollar earner Veyron have all had the Dowling polish applied for major wins on both sides of the Tasman.
Additionally, in January 1993 Linda was entrusted with the care of Rock Review, the Sydney two-year-old filly who won the NZ Magic Million race at Trentham for Sydney trainer BJ Lockwood.
The Early Years
Linda Laing was always destined to be a racehorse trainer. The only daughter of Royce and Barbara Dowling, Linda was born into a racing family and has spent her entire life around horses.
As an apprentice jockey, Linda rode for a short time with moderate success – one of the highlights of her riding career being when she represented New Zealand in an invitation riders race at Moonee Valley in Victoria, Australia in January 1979.
Training Since 1981
After Linda had served her apprenticeship she joined her father in a training partnership in the 1981/1982 racing season, operating out of Te Rapa.
In 1990, the family operation moved to Cambridge. Twenty years on to the 2010 season, Linda became a sole trainer, taking on the training role in her own right.
