'Class A' Public Trainer Licence
Jeffcoat Racing is owned and managed by Denise and Shayne Jeffcoat. They are based at Patamuhoe in Pukekohe , having a property positioned close to the Pukekohe Training Centre. Their location means the horses are transported only a short distance to Pukekohe every morning for trackwork.
The Complex
Currently, the team currently consists of between 6 to 12 horses, being well supported by good loyal owners that have supported her for many years while Denise also owns one or two herself.
Along with husband Shayne, they also breed, buy and sell horses - including those purchased in Australia that have turned out rather successfully for the couple.
The 10 acre Patumahoe property is well set up with post and railed safe fencing, a new stable block with 8 boxes.
The covered wash bay and large covered day yards complement the property, with plenty of spacious day paddocking for the horses to roam in.
Karotahi Beach is only 20 minutes away, offering another surface and training experience for all the horses.
Support Services
An important aspect of Jeffcoat Racing's training establishment is that they have a very good Veterinarian and a very good Equine Physiotherapist close by. Denise says this is invaluable to her operations, as is son Ben who is often on hand to help out when needed.
The Early Days
Jockey - Denise Cole
Brother Alan Cole was very influential in Denise Cole's destiny to be involved in the horse racing industry. During Alan's riding apprenticeship, Denise was forever going to watch him ride at weekends and she soon found herself loving the sport and quickly took out an apprenticeship herself - initially working for Bob & Lee Lowther. Her riding career as a jockey lasted 17 years.
Training
Her career as a jockey inevitably led to her carving out a career as a trainer. Initially she worked for prominent Hastings trainer of those times Don Sellwood, eventually gaining her Public Training Licence and training in partnership with Bob Lowther.
During those times Bob and Denise trained a big team, and some great horses went through their hands, including:
- Stylish Lass
- Silver Roe
- Phemiejane
- Dita
- Syds Return (who went to the Sydney stables of Gai Waterhouse).
A few years later Denise and husband Shayne branched out on their own, purchased their Pukekohe property at Patamuhoe.

Special Memories
The first horse Denise bought - won its first trial. That was a thrill!
Jaggers Fontaine – a runner in the Oaks as a 3 year old. Another thrill!
Mostly, "I am thrilled when the horses do well, they are well turned out. I get a 'buzz' when I see my owners having fun’
