  • Welcome to ‘Highview Stud’

One of New Zealand’s Premier Stud Farms

    History

Highview was first established in 1986 on the property that is now Curroughmore Stud.

The current Highview property was purchased in 1987 and following initial developments the operation was moved in 1991 to where we operate from today,  across the road from the existing Curraghmore Stud.

Located on the outskirts southwest of Hamilton city at Ngahinapouri, Highview has been gradually developed over the last 20 years to become one of the finest stud farms in New Zealand.

It comprises more than 120 hectares of prime gentle undulating dairy farmland in the heart of the Waikato which has been described as the most fertile valley in the world. The farm is extensively fenced in post and rail fencing, providing an outstanding agistment base for our client’s horses.

Highview also features an 1000m all weather training track with associated top-class facilities which enables clients horses to be broken in, pre-trained and trained through to race day if required. The farm has an outstanding reputation for producing top quality racehorses, glamour mare Wealth Princess the latest prime example. In fact Highview remains one of the only five commercial stud farms to have won the coverted NZ Breeder of the Year Award. The farm is also the Australasian base for the Hong Kong Breeders Club.

Previous stallions to have stood at Highview include Bassenthwaite (GB) who stood his first season in 1987 as foundation sire. Others to follow were Khozaam (USA), Clay Hero (Aus), Wallenda (USA), Senor Pete (USA), San Luis (Aus), Johar (USA), and Kashani (USA).

Our current stallions are Align (Aus), Danroad (Aus), Sufficient, Bullbars and exciting newcomer Sweet Orange.

    About Highview Stud

Highview was originally established on the property that is now Curraghmore Stud. In 1987 the current property that adjoins Curraghmore was purchased and Highview moved to this site in 1991.

Located on the outskirts of Hamilton City on SH39 at Ngahinapouri, Highview has been developed over the years into one of the most picturesque stud farms in New Zealand. It comprises some 300 acres of prime undulating dairy farm-land in the heart of the Waikato, often described as the most fertile valley in the world. The property is extensively fenced  in post and rail fencing, providing an outstanding agistment base for clients horses. Highview also incorporates an 1100m track with associated top class facilities which allows us to break in, pre- train and train both our own horses and those of our clients.

Brent and Louise are especially proud of the beautiful farm, the proven stalllions, the quality of excellent staff and rich history which has seen the property recognised for many years as one of New Zealand’s most successful producing thoroughbred farms.

Brent, Louise and their staff pride themselves in providing clients with high quality service and communication and look forward to being of assistance to you at any time.

About 90 minutes drive south of New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, is Hamilton City in the centre of the lush Waikato valley, the dairy farming capital of the world.

The Waikato is home to a host of New Zealand’s premier stud farms and breeders. Here the horse is “King”, Waikato having long ago adopted the appellation “the Kentucky of New Zealand.” Without exception, overseas visitors freely describe the area as having components of California, Ireland and Kentucky. No wonder racehorses bred in this area dominate Australasia and Asian racing.
