    'Class A' Public Trainers Licence

Gary Alton has held a Public training licence for the past 12 years working his way through with a Permit to Train and later and Owner Trainer.  As a child he was brought through the Pony Club ranks, enjoyed Hunting during the winter season and riding work as a youngster for his Owner-Trainer parents. Gary has amassed more than $1.4 million in winning stakes.

Gary also rode work for several Cambridge trainers including Margaret Bull and Wally Townsend,  eventually establishing his own Racing Stables 500 metres from the Cambridge Training Centre facilities.

The 12 acre property is complimented with a 12 horse Barn, yards and boxes which enables Gary to box 20 horses at any one time.  All horses are paddocked during the day and an all surface arena provides another surface for horses to be worked on.

An addition to his facility has been the Equine treadmill which has produced some outstanding results for those needing some rehabilitation.

Several of Gary’s owners are Asian or Indonesian, purchasing from the NZ Bloodstock yearling sales or Ready to Runs, then passing on to Gary who works them through to trialling before they head over to Singapore for racing.

The addition of the Equine treadmill to the business has given some very good results but the one that stands out at this moment would have to be the comeback of Historian.

He won 2 starts in NZ, a placing in the Gr I New Zealand Derby before being sent to Hong Kong, where he bowed a tendon and was unable to race.  A long rehabilitation period returning to NZ he began working on the treadmill,  this was followed by his comeback winning the Group 1 Thorndon Mile, the Group 3 Spring Classic and the Group 1 Zabeel Classic.  He continues his racing career today in Australia.

Gary says hes lucky to have such good staff, ‘we give every horse a decent chance’, happy to be training and working on nice horses that are coming through the ranks.
