Welcome to 'Tunbridge Wells Racing Stables'
'Class A' Licensed Trainer | Proprietor: Kelly Burne
Kelly’s History
Kelly Burne has been training racehorses for over a decade. Always interested in racing as a child, the interest became her occupation, firstly working fulltime breaking and educating young thoroughbreds. Later, that occupation saw Kelly gain her Class A Public Training Licence.
Stable
After initially training at Waipukurau, these days the team are stabled in Hastings, only minutes from the Hawkes Bay Racings training centre.
Kelly has amassed over $600,000 in winning stake monies during her career and places a lot of her successes on the environment that her thoroughbreds are kept in.
Hawkes Bay Racing has been good for the stables most recently giving them their first quinella and Pit A Pat also providing jockey Chris Johnson with his 2000th winning ride. The Hastings course was also the venue for Kellys first winning performance as a trainer.
Training Philosophy
Handling, working and feeding each individually, does make a difference, and with every horse able to have its own paddock with multiple options for training surfaces, including forestry tracks onsite.
Kelly also rides most of her own trackwork, this giving her an edge in terms of insight into where each of her charges are at and is consistent with her concept of total individual care.
Career Highlights
Highlights of her career include winning the Group 2 Japan NZ Trophy with My Astron who also ran a good 3rd in the Group 1 Easter Handicap.
Training a Group 1 winner and winning the Kumara Gold Nuggets are certainly on the bucket list for Kelly Burne.
