COVID-19 emergency regulations - alert level 1

NZTR
8 June 2020

On Saturday, 21st March 2020, the government advised a four-level alert level system to be used during the COVID-19 response.  On Monday 8 June 2020, the Prime Minister announced that the country would move to Alert Level 1 from midnight 8 June.

NZTR Alert Level 1 Directive

NZTR has issued Directives that prevail according to the government Alert Level, so with the issuance of this Directive, protocols that related Alert Levels 2, 3 or 4 are rescinded, but will be re-instated by NZTR if the government advises a future change in Alert Levels.

Under Alert Level 1 the only NZTR protocols that must be observed are:

1.  Contact Tracing:

All Thoroughbred training and racing tracks should facilitate a form of electronic contact tracing, so that participants, owners or public who wish to log their location may do so.

Use should be encouraged with assistance of QR Code posters in entrances, other prominent locations and potentially in racebooks.

NZTR recommends the Ministry of Health’s ‘NZ COVID Tracer’ app (see link).

2.  Hygiene:

In addition to the usual provision of soap at handbasins, and for the convenience of patrons who wish to continue to use hand sanitiser, Clubs should also provide dispensers at frequently used entrances and counters.

3.  Personal health:

Club staff, participants and public should not attend meetings if they have a raised temperature or other indication of illness or fever; or any indication of a cough, sneezing or runny nose, or sore throat.

Racing Conditions and Regulations for a Return to Racing

The Racing Conditions and Regulations as released on 30 April 2020 (and subsequently revised) will remain in place (see link).  These will be reviewed in light of the move to Level 1.

Te Rapa Trials – 9 June 2020

For participants and attendees of the Trials meeting at Te Rapa on Tuesday 9 June, please note:

  1. NZTR Alert Level 1 Protocols as noted above will apply;
  1. Entrance to the racecourse only be available through the Ken Browne Drive entrance (the Sir Tristram Avenue entrance will be closed); and
  1. As the club has not had opportunity to plan for Alert Level 1, there will be only limited public access to viewing areas and to the toilets on Level 2, and food will be available only at ‘The Cubby’.
