  • Welcome to ‘Bidlake Racing’
    Our Stables – About

Bidlake Racing currently has ten horses in training, now based at the Tauherenikau Racecourse, which Aaron regards as the most beautiful racecourse in NZ.

The stables feature rent boxes and paddocks off the club, a quiet little training center and Bidlake Racing has the privilege of being able to use a course proper at any time. Around six meetings per year are held on the track, which seems to suit all runners, pacemakers or back markers. This has given the company the ability to have full control over the process of providing a huge range of products and services, while at the same time covering Thoroughbred racing throughout the entire North Island.

In the coming years, Bidlake Racing plans to further increase the stable numbers and win more races. Aaron would also love to make an effort to bring jumps racing back into the limelight and intends to put a push on some jumping syndicates.

    Training – Our Services

    Flat and Jumping
We have achieved success in both these racing codes and would be delighted to discuss the costs and other details with you.

We have had considerable success the past few seasons with limited opportunities and horses with limited natural ability but with keeping the horses happy and enjoying their life in the relaxed environment at Tauherenikau we have managed to get the very best from them. Unafraid to travel, we have had good reward with Eric the Viking doing the Koral/National double, Elusive Tracy black type placing at Riccarton and Curry Up third in the Listed Gore Guineas.

I pride myself in winning races with bargain buy horses; Curry Up $2500 and Elusive Tracy $5000 both from ready to run sales who both now have a future as broodmares with the black type on their page. An absolute passion for racing I do a lot of research into form and how races plan out, and I do feel this has helped many times in the results of races my horses have performed in.

I am based at the stables on the track at Tauherenikau. Nestled away among the native bush the horses really thrive and are very relaxed and happy animals, the use of the course proper being a major advantage with most of my horses only ever requiring one or two trials before heading to the races.

I have managed to keep my training fees at a very competitive rate and anyone wanting further detail please make contact.

    Horses

    Eric The Viking
Former Whyte Handicap and Opunake Cup winner.
Going along well with a 2nd and a 3rd from three chases this year, only missing when 5th in the Manawatu Chase after hitting a fence hard at the 1100 when going well.
Back to Maiden Chase at Trentham.

    Elusive Tracy
The seven time winner is back for another winter. Coming along nice again this winter with another black type placing when running 2nd at Riccarton.
Another Open class 2nd at Trentham before failing on unsuitable ground at Tauranga. Opunake Cup next likely target.

    Evasive Tracy
Coming along nicely as a hurdler running a good 2nd at her last start, possibly heads to Trentham and then maybe Riccarton.

    Carrington Park
Has shown enough in a couple of runs but showed she can’t handle good tracks yet. A month or two off before a late winter prep.

    No Fear
Only fair in his first three runs for the stable before and impressive win at Woodville. Had a few more runs but disappointed in a couple. Will be back next summer.

    Captain Rio/Red Mary
Nice 2 year old who has had one trial for a good third placing. Undecided where to next at this stage.

    Fully Fledged
Gelding, 2 year old who has a couple of run alongs, throws a leg a bit but going nicely enough.

    Elusive City/Twilight Rose
Two year old colt, purchased from ready to run sales. Powerful well bred boy who is a bit of a wimp on the ground but does everything right on the track so far. Had one trial to educate and has just started back in work.

    Shinko King/Vindaloo
Filly, also from the ready to run sale, real running type of filly. Went to the trials and was slightly disappointing only to have a stone bruise come out the following day.

    Tavistock/Dawninski
Yearling, plain looking filly who will take a bit of time, the family is going very well and Tavistock will make the grade.

    Mr Nancho/ Ella’s Lea
Yearling, loved this colt when I saw him in the ring, broken in and having an early season prep, handling it all very well.

    Some Personal Stuff

    1. Who’s the one person you’d invite for dinner: Bart Cummings
    2. How did you get involved in racing: Started going to stables before school and helping out a few trainers as I had a desire from early age to be part of the racing game.
    3. If you hadn’t been in racing what would you have done: Played cricket
    4. Greatest dislikes: People who continue to complain that the racing game in NZ is stuffed but still continue to carry on doing it,these same people are the ones who never offer any views or ideas on how they could improve it.
    5. Event in the world you’d like to attend: Cox Plate
    6. Where in the world would you like to visit: Cheltenham
    7. Greatest place you’ve visited: Africa
    8. What do you enjoy outside racing: Rugby,Cricket,Fishing(especially whitebaiting),spending time with my family.
    9. Childhood hero: Noel Harris and Buck Shelford
    10. Best thing about racing: Winning
    11. Favourite horse(s): Eric The Viking and all horses that try hard.
    12. Best race you’ve seen: Sunline’s Mudgeway.
    13. Biggest thrill in racing: Eric The Viking winning Opunake Cup
    14. What changes would you like to see in racing: A major push is required to get new people on track, this will create new ownership. The punter needs to looked after more, especially the big players,we are losing too much money offshore. Costs like the change of ownership and naming of racehorse are way too much. Appearance fees or travel paid to race meetings,we offer a product and have to pay to do so. More main stream media coverage.
    15. Most admired person in racing: John Wheeler
    16. Best advice you’ve been given: Don’t believe everything you read.
