6th Dec: Burgundy Belle scores on debut
Published: 07 Dec 2018 - - Author: NZ Racing Desk

Three-year-old filly Burgundy Belle has been earmarked for a possible tilt at black-type after her impressive debut victory in the Nulook Aluminium Maiden (1100m) at Pukekura Raceway on Thursday.

The daughter of Burgundy jumped away well from barrier two under in-form hoop Shafiq Rusof. She loomed wide at the turn to run away from her competition, winning by five and a half lengths.

“She was very impressive and it’s really good to get a win for John (Galvin) and the Fortuna team,” racing manager Libby Richards said.

“She’s a bit of a favourite at home and we hope to see her, maybe, in a stakes race in the next few months.”

That could involve a tilt at the Gr.3 Mongolian Khan Trophy (1200m) at Ellerslie next month, a race that Fortuna won with Melody Belle earlier this year.

Racing at the New Plymouth track was abandoned following race three after jockey Tony Allan was dislodged when his mount Stumpy slipped at the 350m mark.
