  • Welcome to
    'Riversley Park / Sam Beatson'
For all your Breaking, Pre-training and Ready to Run preparations.

Sam Beatson has been based at 'Riversley Park' in the Waikato for the last 8 years.

    Breaking & Pre-Training

His complex is establised on a 22 acre property at Ohaupo (south of Hamilton) and it boasts everything one would need in respect of preparing and educating yearlings through to two year olds.

    Ready to Run Sales

Prepping for the Ready to Run Sales is another avenue Sam has pursued and for the past 5 years this has become a significant part of the business.

As the Ready to Run draft has grown so has the quality of the horses and for Sam, this means that he has better pedigrees to work with.

Every aspect of education for your equine is catered for at his state of the art facilities:

    • 22 acre property
    • fully post and railed
    • 600 metre sandtrack
    • a full compliment of boxes, yards, walker and starting gates.

The Waipa Racing Club's course at Te Awamutu and the course at the Cambridge Jockey Clubs training centre are both close by. They enable regular attendance at jumpouts, on-course familiarisation and the all important 'breeze ups', perfect for preparing the horses for the Ready to Run two year old sales.

    The Early Years

35 year old Sam comes from a prominent and successful line of owner trainers, amateur jockeys, race administrators and breeders so it is not surprising he ended up building a career in the racing industry.

Sam is a descendant of John Beatson, a successful amateur jockey in the 1870’s and 1880’s and a founding member of the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club.
The Beatson name hurtled further into racing history when George Beatson raced horses (whilst still at school) and subsequently became a leading amateur jockey, owner trainer, breeder and racing administrator. Prominent wins include the Ormond Gold Cup, the Easter Handicap and both the Railway and Telegraph Handicaps. Additionally he owned and trained a string of jumpers.

Grandson Sam continued the legacy, excelling in showjumping and representing New Zealand in both India and Australia. Working with horses, breaking in and education would come naturally to Sam given his pedigree and being the fourth generation family member to do so.
