Rachael served her jockey apprenticeship in New Zealand. Deciding on a career change into training, in 1999 she headed for Ireland and a job in the stables of the famous Aidan O’Brien. At a relatively early age Rachael had the privilege of attending some of Ireland’s largest and most iconic race days – an amazing and enlightening experience that set her on the path to her future career.

On her way home from Europe, Rachael spent time in Sydney working for Gai Waterhouse, learning more about training from another leader in the field. She completed her overseas adventure in Melbourne where she rode freelance trackwork for a variety of stables.

In 2001 Rachael returned to Otaki and obtained a Permit to Train licence before stepping up to her Class A Public Trainers Licence in 2005. Her best performers have included Captain Kirk, Spirit of Alaton, Aricia and more recently Travimyfriend, Euphoria and Redefine. Rachael is now a well-established lower North Island trainer with a loyal pool of owner clients.

Buddy Lammas was a leading apprecntice jockey in his day, behind only James McDonald for apprentice wins in the 2008/09 season when he greeted the judge 96 times. His riding career incluided a successful association with the good galloper Wall Street among other top performers. After experiencing work in the training ranks, Buddy is now in the full-time role of Foreman and senior Track Rider at Rachael Frost Racing.

Our Racing Success

Sea King , one of New Zealand’s best ever jumpers, was broken in and trained by Rachael to win his first race. Also a part owner, Rachael would hand the up-and-coming star to master trainer Kevin Myers, who would complete the horse's jumping eduication and present him to win a string of major events. These include the Waikato Steeplechase, Waikato Hurdles, Kenny Brown Hurdles at Ellerslie and Riccarton's Sydenham Hurdles.

Campaigned in Australia regularly, Sea King  has also won a string of

Travimyfriend   continued a great run of summer place form when he stepped out in the Otaki Maori Racing Club's Group One Haunui Farm WFA Classic held on the Hastngs course. His third behind top mare Devise was very meritorious, running in a prominent position and holding on well in the straight with Chris Johnson aboard. The honest and consistent stable flag-bearer has earned a stake in all but four of his 20 starts to date for his owners.

Campaigned in Australia regularly, Sea King has also won a string of races there, including the Aust. Grand National Hurdles. As of the end of the 2016/17 season, Sea King has won 19 races, 16 of them over fences.

By September 2017 Sea King was back in pre-training to build for another busy winter and racing that all going to plan will begin earlier than in past years. That will give the wonderful jumper and crowd favourite every chance to build on his stellar jumping record.

Spirit of Alaton was another fine great jumper, trained by Rachael to win the Waikato Hurdles on two occasions.

Captain Kirk was the winner of nine races throughout a career that included four Premier Meeting wins. Right Royal Rose won five, while Aricia and Madredeaus also helped enhance Rachael's reputation for training winners.

In the 2016/17 season Rachael enjoyed success with Travimyfriend, winner of three in a row over the summer, and Redefine, also achieving a hat-trick of wins, at Wanganui, Otaki and Hawkes Bay in the early winter. Travimyfriend has gone on with it in the following season, with victory in a Rating 85 at Hawera. Euphoria started her four-year-old season in with a fresh-up win at New Plymouth, making it three victories from six starts.

Racing up a grade at Hawera, Travimyfriend took care of a handy field in the Fairview Aluminium 1400m Rating 85. The Tavistock 5yo will now be set for bigger races at Trenham or Riccartion in the weeks to come.

The stable's promising mare Euphoria made it three wins from six starts at New Plymouth when taking out the Harold Tuson Memorial 990. Euphoria had come off a spell and a fruitless trip to Brisbane, where she picked up a virus. The Rip Van Winkle mare bounced back powerfully at Pukekura Raceway, making ground quickly on the turn to win by 1.3 lengths in the hands of Hayden Tinsley.

16 September 2017

Travimyfriend just went down to Yin Dragon in the H&T Agronimics/Agricom Handicap over 1200m. Parked three wide the whole trip, Travimyfiend fought hard to head the leaders short of the post but get beaten on the line by half a neck. It was a promising sign with bigger races on the cards for the 5yo by Tavistock, including a nomination to race during NZ Cup Week at Riccarton. That race form was franked when Yin Dragon went on to win his next start in the Powerworx Greys feature at Pukekura Raceway.
